Alumina Magnesia Spinel Brick Introduction
Alumina magnesia spinel brick, also known as magnesia alumina spinel brick or spinel refractory brick, is a high-performance basic refractory material produced from magnesium oxide (MgO) and alumina (Al₂O₃) raw materials.
Since natural magnesium alumina spinel resources are limited, industrial spinel used in refractory production is mainly synthetic. Tyreen produces alumina magnesia spinel bricks using high-quality bauxite and high-purity light burned magnesia as the main raw materials.
Through multi-stage homogenization, optimized particle grading, molding and high-temperature firing in an ultra-high temperature tunnel kiln, the brick forms a dense microstructure with excellent thermal stability, good spalling resistance and reliable service performance in high-temperature environments.
Compared with traditional magnesia chrome bricks, alumina magnesia spinel bricks provide a chromium-free refractory solution with excellent thermal shock resistance and are widely used in cement rotary kilns and steelmaking applications.
Technical Characteristics
Excellent Thermal Stability
Alumina magnesia spinel brick improves the thermal stability of traditional magnesia-based refractories through the formation of magnesium alumina spinel phase.
The spinel structure helps reduce thermal stress during repeated heating and cooling cycles, making the brick suitable for areas exposed to frequent temperature fluctuations.
Excellent Resistance to Thermal Spalling
During service in cement rotary kilns, alumina magnesia spinel bricks react with clinker components and gradually form a thin calcium aluminate protective layer on the hot surface.
This protective layer reduces the penetration of liquid phase and improves resistance to peeling and structural damage.
Compared with directly bonded magnesia chrome bricks, spinel bricks generally show better thermal shock resistance and anti-spalling performance in suitable kiln zones.
Chromium-Free Environmental Performance
Alumina magnesia spinel brick does not contain chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃), avoiding the environmental concerns associated with chromium-containing refractory materials.
It is widely considered an environmentally friendly alternative for cement kiln linings.
Good Corrosion Resistance
With high melting point, stable chemical properties and strong resistance to alkaline materials, alumina magnesia spinel bricks can maintain reliable performance under cement clinker erosion and high-temperature operating conditions.

Manufacturing Process
Tyreen alumina magnesia spinel bricks are manufactured through a controlled production process:
- Selection of high-quality alumina and magnesia raw materials
- Multi-stage homogenization treatment
- Optimized raw material grading and molding
- High-temperature sintering process
The controlled production process ensures uniform structure, stable physical properties and long service life under high-temperature conditions.
Typical Applications
Cement Rotary Kiln
Alumina magnesia spinel bricks are mainly used in cement rotary kiln areas requiring excellent thermal shock resistance and clinker corrosion resistance.
Typical application areas include:
- Transition zone
- Cooling zone
- Burning zone (depending on kiln operating conditions)
- Other high thermal stress areas
Compared with magnesia chrome bricks, spinel bricks provide a chromium-free solution while maintaining excellent resistance to thermal cycling.
Steelmaking Industry
Synthetic alumina magnesia spinel is also an important raw material for high-performance monolithic refractories.
Applications include:
- Steel ladle castables
- Ladle lining materials
- Other steelmaking refractory systems
The addition of spinel improves corrosion resistance and enhances lining stability.
